LI: to learn business
For the last couple of weeks LS1 has been studying business and enterprise. So LS1 started their own business, and started making frames to sell. They were selling normal sized frames and small frames. They first started off by picking a topic for their frame so it could guide them what the frame would look like. Some kids themes were seasons like Winter and Summer, some were holidays like Christmas. Some even did things like Fathers Day, and also did colour schemes like neon. LS1 did all sorts of things to design the frames. They have done painting, made their own accessories, and have done many more.

Tennis (Wk 4)
LI: to learn tennis
This week LS1 started off by doing rallies. But while they were doing rallies they had to try to control the power they put into the racket when they hit the ball. They then played doubles, which is just normal tennis but there are two people on each side. Then they practised their serving. When they were with their partner they had to be on different sides. So they were in a diagonal position. So they had the racket on their shoulder and the ball on the other hand so when they threw the ball up, they could hit the ball with the racket.

Coffee Shop Game
LI: to learn about business
For Inquiry LS1 were playing a coffee shop game. In the game they were in a coffee business. They had to buy the supply and adjust the recipe of the coffee to get it to taste good. If the coffee was good and the price was good the reputation would go up. It would show a graph showing if their reputation increased or decreased, how many cups they have sold, how much cash they made, and see if they changed the price while we were selling. So the objective of the game was to try to make as much money in 14 days.

Paper Plane Measurements
LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wing span and area on lift
This week Mr Wongs Math Groups tried different model planes and tested their studied the effect of the wingspan and area on lift. There were different plane designs like Zip Flip, Sonice Star, Fire Dart and heaps more. Then there were three main plane models. Which were Glider, Dart, and Stunt. They threw their paper planes ten times. They then had to find the average by adding all the measurements up and dividing it by ten. They then made a graph with a trend-line to see if the wingspan effected the distance flown by the plane.

Character & Setting Description
LI: to identify parts of a narrative
This week Mr Ogilvies Writing Groups were planning a narrative. They started off by coming up with a Male character whose name was Jaerell, and a Female character named Patricia. After they came up with settings which were the future city of Los Angeles, an abandoned farm, and Area 51. They then had to do a Character Description for Jaerell and Patricia. Then a setting description for the future city of Los Angeles, Area 51, and a abandoned farm.

Tennis (Wk 3)
LI: to learn how to serve
LS1 first started off with small rallies. They then later did a warm up to help them with their serving. Then they were with their partner and had to be on different sides. So they were in a diagonal position. They then had to serve the ball to each other diagonally without the racket. They served the ball in a shot put position. So the ball in our hands are on our shoulder and pushing the ball. They then did the serve with the racket. So they had the racket on their shoulder and the ball on the other hand so when they threw the ball up, they could hit the ball with the racket.

Foodprint
LI: to learn business
Today a businesswoman named Michael came in to share her journey on creating her business to LS1 and LS2. Her business is Foodprint which is an app that sells food for half the price, from cafes and bakeries that had to much supply and less demand. Michael started working on her business two years ago and just launched it just under six months ago. She started this because she thought Food waste was a problem. Right now in the world we have 7.5 billion people, and we make food enough to feed 10 billion people. So the leftover food we have people just throw it away. People waste 1.3 billion tonnes of food which decays and turns into methane gas which contributes to climate change. So food waste isn't just wasting food which could be eaten, but is also changing other stuff like climate change.
For example bread is the one of the most wasted food items on earth. New Zealand waste 20 million loaves of bread even though there are only 4.5 million of people in New Zealand. She also shared how she made her logo, name, and a bunch of other things.

Wingspan Data
LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effects of the wingspan and area on lift
Mr Wongs Math Groups made graphs to study the lift to see if the wingspan and distance differs. The type of graph they made was a scatter chart. They first threw their planes and had to measure the distance. They also needed the measurements as data so they can use it in their graph. They also have made some mistakes like how most of the planes distance flown were pretty consistent and maybe one or two were way off. So they might have thrown it too hard or too soft. They also made a paper graph, and drew a trend-line. A trend-line is a line that shows how high or low the results are.

Setting Description
LI: to investigate figurative language
Mr Ogilvies Writing groups have been learning figurative language to help their descriptions more descriptive. Figurative language is saying something to someone but not directly meaning it. Last week they tried to describing a character with different types of figurative language. Simile, Metaphor, Personification, and Hyperbole. This week they described a setting using figurative language. They used the five senses: See, Smell, Taste, Sound, and Feel. We used those to help us describe the settings.

Tennis (Wk 2)
LI: to learn the volley
This week LS1 started learning the volley. They had to use the forehand and backhand grip technique but rather then hitting it after it bounces they hit it on the full. LS1 first started with a partner throwing a ball at us and we had to hit the ball on the full. They then had a rally with our partner but had to go hit it on the full. They also did it a point system.

Supply and Demand
LI: to learn Supply and Demand
LS1 have been continuing on with their Business Studies. They have been learning about Supply and Demand. Supply is how much there is available of the product. If the supplies price increases the company will make or build more of the product for the people. Demand is how much of the product people want. If the price increases, not as much people want it. Our task was to make a slide explaning Supply and Demand. LS1 then played a game which was called "I Supply, You Demand". Basically we were a company and we had to make money by picking an amount of stock and choosing the price of the product.

How to Cybermsmart
How do children use Cybersmarts here at Panmure Bridge School and within the Manaiakalani Cluster as a whole? Watch this tutorial to find out.
LS1 contributes "How to Cybersmart" as one of three submissions to the 2019 Manaiakalani Film Festival.
In 2019 our learners have again been learning about satire. We have taken the famous How to Dad's videos as inspiration for a way to look into our own learning and teaching practises as learners and teachers. We considered our practises to find a simplistic interpretation, then expressed that interpretation in a comedic way.
A small group was asked to research, write, storyboard, and film the movies this year. They had support from Mr Wong who also did much of the editing.

Figurative Character Description
LI: to investigate figurative language
Figurative language is saying something but not actually meaning it, not saying it directly. We've learnt five types of figurative language. Simile is comparing two things by using the words like or as. An example is "He was as fast as a cheetah". Another is Metaphor which is also comparing two things without using like or as. For example "He was a pig at dinner". Next is Personification which is giving human traits to inanimate objects or ideas. Later we learned Hyperbole which is exaggerating to show strong feelings or effect. Another example is "My house is a million miles from here". Understatement is the exact opposite of Hyperbole, it is expression with less strength then expected. For example "I'll be there in a second". We got a bunch of characters and we described them figuratively. We described them by using Similes, Metaphors, Hyperbole, and Personification.
Origami Plane Variables
LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wingspan and area on lift.
For the next couple of weeks Mr Wongs Math groups are studying aerodynamics. We learnt what variables are as well as independent and dependent variables. Our task this week was to create 12 paper/origami planes focusing on one certain design and studying each aspect of the design and which part of the paper planes are important and how they affect launch and flight. A variable is a feature of an object or thing that can change between multiple types of the object/item. An independent variable is unchanged by other variables or will not be changed by other aspects or assets of a variable. A dependent variable is depends on another factor in order to be changed.

Business (Wk 2)
LI: to learn the differences between Goods & Services
Goods is something you buy with your money, that you can hold. For example you buys sneakers, and they give it to you to your hands. Services are something you give money to but you can't really hold it, they do something for you. For example a taxi, you give them money to take you where you want to go. We had a bunch of little papers with company or business logos on them. We had to sort them out however we like. For example the Gucci one would be in the Fashion section, and the KFC one would be in the food section.
Novel Studies
LI: to novel study
For the next couple of weeks Mr Ogilvies reading groups are going to do novel studies. We did novel studies on Roald Dahl books. The Roald Dahl books we could pick were Matilda, The Witches, The Twits, Georges Marvellous Medicine, Danny the champion of the world, Fantastic Mr Fox, and Giraffe the Pelly and me. We are supposed to read the books up to a certain point, then do an activity. There are a bunch of activities for each book like, Character Descriptions, Story Web, Author Study, Comprehension questions and more.

Origami Planes
LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wing span and area on lift
This week we started making Origami Planes. There were two types of plane we can make. One was the standard plane and the other one was a different plane. The first one was a bit taller then the second one. We had to pick one of the plane models to study. I picked the second plane model. Our task was to make a diagram show the parts of the origami plane. We also had to measure the parts of the plane. We measured the fuselage length, fuselage width, wingspan, wing area, and wing length.
Business (Wk 1)
LI: to define & describe the terms enterprise and business
Enterprise meaning online is "a project or undertaking, especially a bold or complex one". Which means to agree on a project or some work. Business's meaning online is "a person's regular occupation, profession or trade". Which means a person's job. We first started on with an activity. We had the word Enterprise. We had to guess what the meaning of Enterprise meant in our groups. We did the same thing with the word Business. We then in our groups had to put in our definitions of Enterprise & Business, and put it aside with the real definition. We then had to get a bunch of business's, local, national, and international. We then had to write down what they sell, and their price range.
Tennis (Wk 1)
LI: to learn the forehand and backhand grip technique
For the term our Kiwisport is Tennis. We first started off learning the two grips. The forehand grip technique was putting your dominant hand at the bottom of the racket. The backhand grip technique was two hands holding the racket but the dominant hand is also at the bottom while the weak hand is at the top. To practise these techniques we got balls thrown at us so we could hit the ball while doing the techniques. We then practised them again by doing some rallies with a partner.

Ki O Rahi Recap
LI: to play Ki O Rahi
In Term 1 the Kiwisport LS1 were learning Ki O Rahi. Ki O Rahi incorporates skills from a lot of different sports like rugby, rippa, & touch. The whole term LS1 have been practising the different roles and skills of Ki O Rahi. The different roles are Kioma, Taniwha, and Keitiaki. Ki Oma are the people who have a ball and try to the the poles and try to get a try in the middle. Taniwhas roles is to get the ball from Kioma so they can try to hit the bin in the middle. The other role is Keitiaki which is part of the Kioma team. They try to block the hits from Taniwha so they don't get any points.

Inquiry
LI: to identify characteristics of a health/non healthy relationship
In Term 1 for Inquiry we were learning what a healthy/non healthy relationship is, and what good/bad teamwork is. So for our DLO we first wrote on two padlets.
The first padlet was Types of Relationships. Our categories were Home, School, and Community. For example at home you have a relationship with your parents. A relationship at school could be with your friends. A relationship you could have in the community could be a librarian. But it always doesn't have to be a person. For example at home you could have a relationship with an object that you really admire, and if it were to be stolen, or lost you would be really sad.
The second padlet was how relationships can change. For example your Dad leaves to another country because of work. That changes the relationship but still doesn't end it.
Then we made we made a Body Outline and for that we had to write about what are the negative emotions, and actions a bad teammate would do. We also had to write what positive emotions, and actions a good teammate would do.
Next we did a T - Chart that has the things needed in a Good and Bad Team. We then had to rank what the number one thing is needed in a good and team, then rank it down.
Duffy Theatre
LI: to learn about reading
Duffy Theatre have performed a play for Panmure Bridge School. It was about how Duffy got sucked into the game. It was really bizarre, funny, and great. The characters were: Duffy, Sam (Duffys Cousin), Sams Mum, Dismantler (in the game), Puzzler (in the game).
Firstly Duffy went over to Sams house and got sucked into the game by wearing magical glasses. He got sucked into the game Magic Bricks. It was like Jumanji, so Duffy only had a limited amount of time to get out or he would get trapped into the game forever. They find out that their grandmother was the creator of the game, and learned the algorithm to get out.
Ki Or Rahi
LI: To practice the full game of Ki O Rahi
Today in Ki O rahi we were practising our skills to play ki o rahi. We haven't learnt anything extra but there are things that we need to do better. They are; Communicate, Co-operate, Teamwork and to respect equipment, players and areas in the game.
Taniwha
In Ki O rahi there are 2 teams, Kioma and Taniwha. The Taniwha, in the story, tries to attack Rahi. The Taniwha's main goal is to stand in te roto, and throw the ki at the tupu. One hit = 1 Point. The boundries for Taniwha are Pa whero, Te ara and te ao when trying to score.
Kioma
The second Team In Ki O Rahi is Kioma. Kioma's goal is to touch as many po as possible or wanted with the ki and avoid getting ripped once or twice. The Boundries for Kioma are Te roto, Te ara and Pawhero. After touching one or more po, they have to run into te roto and score a try in pa whero. If A Kioma Member touches a Po but the ball drops or the person is ripped, then the score is back to 0. If a Kioma Member touches 2 Po and run into te roto and score in pa whero, without being ripped they get the points.
Kaitiaki
2 Members of Kioma Team are Kaitiaki. In the story of Ki O Rahi, the Kaitiaki is an eagle and it protects the rock/tupu. In the game, the kaitiaki do the same and protect the tupu. They are the only roles in the entire game that can go in pawhero. They have to prevent Taniwha from hitting the tupu with the ki. They are not allowed to touch the tupu while guarding.
Kicker

Another Member of Kioma is Kicker. The Kicker always starts of the game. They have to stand in Te Marama and kick the ki into pawhero. Then the Kaitiaki have to try and catch it. If it drops, roles or taniwha catches it then it is a hand over to taniwha team. If they catch it, they have to pass it to somebody in their team.
Kiwi Sport | Swimming
LI: to learn water safety
We first got sorted into groups and then started our lesson. We first did a starfish in the water, and then we had to flip and do it looking up. We then did the dolphin dive. We had to dive in and try to touch the floor, and then go back up and repeat it. After we did starfishes and put a fist up and shouted "Help!". Next we did a skill which was to do a starfish, then tuck our knees in and try to get our face in the water. Lastly we had to high five our teacher and try to do a skill we knew how to do.

Writing
LI: how to make a detailed sentence
For Writing we learned how to make a simple and boring sentence to a really interesting and detailed sentence. We had to make a simple sentence, and add an adjective, a when, a where, a why, and a how. We were given a sentence and told what to add to the sentence. We then got to make our own simple sentence and make a poster which is the one shown.
Problem Solving-Expanding Horizons / Maths
LI: To learn part additions and place value addition.
In term two we learnt about how do to part addition and place value addition. My group finished of our chart of Expanding Horizons. We did the first problem as a class and then we had to work out the problems in our group .There were four questions that we completed . We did two examples on place value adding and two examples on adding in parts. Word problems is the meaning to Expanding Horizons.

Persuasive speech
Persuasion means to try to make someone think like you or agree with you. A rhetorical question is a question to not be answered but to be thought about. We had to brainstorm topics and mine was "Longer Recess or Lunchtime". In the persuasive speech plan we had to write a rhetorical question, then state our opinion, we then had to list some facts, and say the solution to the problem.
Ihumatao | Reading
L.I to identify the main ideas in a text.
Ihumatao is the place that iwi are protesting for their land because the fl-etchers are wanting to buy and build on the sacred land. The maori people and iwi don't want the fletchers to build on there land. We had to research and find out information about what they were protesting about why they protested and other reasons.

Advertising Commercial / Writing
LI:To Create an advert.
In term three we were learning about advertising. Another word used is commercial. Our commercial is all about a thneeds. We created a plan for the advert.First we looked at some commercials and described it. Then we had to make a poster trying to get people attention.

Infographic
LI: to make an Infographic on Reading
In Term 1 we were learning about Infographics. Infographics are like a poster mainly only having pictures. The pictures in a Infographic have to explain what you are talking about, and there should also be a little bit of writing just to let the people understand it more. So we made an Infographic about reading. The questions we had to answer in the Infographic is: What is Reading? Why do we read? What reader are we? What helps us read?
Graphs
LI: to display data on a graph
In Term 1 we started learning about graphs. A graph is something that shows data in an organised way. For this activity we made graphs about LS1. We had to make six graphs. Every group had the same data. The graphs we made were: who has pets, who has what amount of siblings, favourite subject, holiday activities, birthdays, and languages. We made one of them as a group then make one ourselves. The graphs had to be made digitally and some handmade.

Ratio word problem | Maths
LI: to manage finances and profit by creating with maths.
Managing finances and profit is what we are learning and doing for this term. We are learning about how to use and make money by spending it wisely. We all have bank accounts and we have a opening balance. Each person gets a 50 dollar opening balance. We have commissions to complete that are different levels that earn us different amount of money if finished. we are doing a quiz about ratio word problems.
Rube Goldberg Machine
LI: to tmake a Rube Goldberg machine with all the six simple machines.
We had to try make a Rube Goldberg machine with the simple six machines. A Rube Goldberg machine is a complicated machine to do a simple thing. It took us 2 tries to get every thing working. I was the person working with the wheel and axle. We used a incline plain, wheel and axle and a lever. To create our machine we used a chair and some wood to make the incline plane. We used a car and a book to start our machine. Then someone tips the book, the book hits the car and the car comes down the incline plain, as soon as it gets to the bottom it's going to the person at the bottom of a table. The person at the bottom of the table is going to roll the ball in his hand. The ball then rolls and hits the person standing in front of the table. The person in front of the table is going to roll the basketball then the basketball comes down hits the person next to him. Then when the basketball hit the person next to him, the person next to him slides under the table and hits the person that is at the finish. The person at the finish is going to roll the ball down the incline plain and the ball hits the cup with the dice in it.
The thing I found challenging was trying to get everything working by putting people in the right order. I would change people being under the table because they could hit their head when one little mistake happens.

Today in LS1 for Kiwisport, we learned about the Ki o Rahi field. There are 6 parts to the field:
- Te Ao - "the world"
- Pou - "teeth"
- Te Roto - "the river"
- Pawero - "the island"
- Te Ara - "the ice bridge"
- Tupu - "the rock"
To remember the parts of the Ki o Rahi field, we played Golden Child. The taniwha team play in Te Roto, trying to score points by throwing the ki (ball) at the tupu. The Kioma team run around Te Roto, touching the pou. They then run up alongside Te Ara and score a point by scoring a try in the Pawero.
