Writing | Kapa Haka Performance

On Monday, Panmure Bridge School all went to the hall to experience a kapa haka performance, which was presented by a small kapa haka group.

The kapa haka group performed an entrance ceremony by blowing into a horn and introducing themselves in Maori. Then, the visitors performed their haka.

Once they finished their haka, they informed us about three different Maori tools; the poi, the taiaha and the ti rakau.

In return, Panmure Bridge School's kapa haka group (boys) performed a haka to thank them for performing for us.

Panmure Bridge School enjoyed watching this performance and learning about different Maori tools. This was a great opportunity to learn more about the Maori culture.

LI: to experience and learn kapa haka.

Maritime Museum | Explorers & Adventures | Class Trip

LI: To study the history of New Zealand maritime explorers.

This week on the 12th of February LS1 went to the Maritime Museum to study the history of explorers of Aotearoa. When we arrived to the museum we met our instructors, Lee and Peter.

One group went to explore the museum and my group stayed in the classroom with Lee to get taught about maritime history. Lee taught us about many famous sailors like: Captain Cook, Sir Peter Blake, Abel Tasman, Kupe & Kuramārōtini.

After an hour the two groups switched. We then explored the museum with our smaller group. After another hour of exploring we got ready to leave the museum.

The trip was very fun and enjoyable. I learnt many new things about the history of maritime explorers.

Duffy Theatre

LI: to learn about reading
Duffy Theatre have performed a play for Panmure Bridge School. It was about how Duffy got sucked into the game. It was really bizarre, funny, and great. The characters were: Duffy, Sam (Duffys Cousin), Sams Mum, Dismantler (in the game), Puzzler (in the game).

Firstly Duffy went over to Sams house and got sucked into the game by wearing magical glasses. He got sucked into the game Magic Bricks. It was like Jumanji, so Duffy only had a limited amount of time to get out or he would get trapped into the game forever. They find out that their grandmother was the creator of the game, and learned the algorithm to get out.

Duffy Assembly

On Tuesday the whole school went to the hall because it was Duffy Assembly. We had a few guests to visit this school. Our guests were Tayla Hodson Tomokino, Matt Johnson and a woman from mainfreight. Tayla and Matt went on the stage and told us things about themselves. They told us how reading made them succeed. When Tayla was 6 years old she was a champion at BMX riding. Tayla won 4 trophies in 4 years in a row. Right now Tayla is a accountant, a interviwer and a commentator. Tayla played touch rugby because she wanted to play different sports. Matt is a ruby player who plays for the Blues. One of the hardest teams Matt have played against was Melbourne Storms. Matt's future plan is to be a P.E teacher. Matt has to read books about rules of being a P.E teacher. Tayla's future plan is to graduate the law and wants to help sports people with contractors. After Matt and Tayla told us about themselves we could ask some questions to Tayla and Matt. When we finished asking questions Tayla and Matt handed out Duffy books to each class. After that we went back to class. Tayla and the lady from mainfreight visited LS1. We could ask more questions to Tayla. At t he end Tayla and the lady from mainfreight handed out our Duffy books we chose.

Warriors Visit

This afternoon, Ryan Hoffman and John Palaui from the Warriors team came to our school for a special assembly. At the start of the assembly Alice from DTR, Jorja, Ryan and John had a self introduction. For Ryan and John's self introduction, they had to say their name, position they play in the Warriors and their favourite ice cream flavour. We then started our assembly by spinning a wheel with 4 categories we would do during the assembly. The whole school was divided into 2 teams; Ryan's team and John's team. We each had to choose a chant. For Ryan's team our chant was 'Hofy', and John's teams chant was 'JP'. Our first category was Trivia. For Trivia, we had to shout our team's chant and see who would be the loudest to answer each question. Our second category was Sleep. Like the previous round, we had to shout the loudest for our team to get a point. We had volunteers go up and collect prizes from Ryan and John. Our 3rd round was Hydration. We had students go up and read facts, then sit back down with prizes. Our last round was Belongings. We had to scream our team's chant to get to read and collect prizes from Ryan and John. To finish off our special assembly we took a photo with the whole school including Ryan Hoffman and John Palavi. Our school definitely enjoyed having 2 rugby players from the Warriors visiting our school.

Duffy Theatre T3

Today was the first day of term 3. In the last block, we had Duffy Theatre. First when the classes entered the hall the performers introduced themselves and who they would be playing during the show. The show was about a boy named Duffy who was on a mission to save a man named Bill from being killed in World War 2 .  However, Duffy does face consequences  during his time in the past. In the end he does help his friend Ruby, go to school and learn how to read. The show was very funny and was very creative.

Today the Y6s had Life Education. We talked about Self Esteem and the qualities of a good friend. We played a game where Nichole (Life Education Teacher) called out a number and we had to clap that many times. We had lots of fun playing. The Nichole, showed us a clip called Bonnie in the middle. We discussed what the emotions where in the clip.

Team Building with Mrs Anderson

Today in LS1 we had Mrs Anderson in our class talking about Cooperation and Trust. We did an activity called the Sitting Circle. We had to make a circle and face each other's backs. We had to sit on each other's knees and sit for about a minute. We sucessfully did this task. This was judged by Miss Kirkpatrick.

Duffy theatre

Today we had visitors to do the Duffy show. We enjoyed the show with laughter and we loved the story about Seinna. They tought us about reading, and that rather than watching TV you could read a book. They had three rules, shout the answer out rather than putting your hand up, when they do the be quiet symbol you have to be quiet and also keep your bottom on the floor. They also tought us a valuable message about reading, the message was "reading is important". The best part was when Seinna finally started reading.

Remembrance Ceremony

Today the whole school came to the Anzac Remembrance ceremony. We had a special guset to come and visit us, Stacey Lock from the defence force. She came and talked about the fort and the death of the Anzac Soldiers who fighted for our country. After her speech we had a minute of silence to remember the soldiers who died, then 2 people from each class came to the front and placed their Anzac wreath on a table.
