Te Tiriti o Waitangi

LI: To learn about the history of the treaty of Waitangi.

This week LS1 has been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi by using a variety of text types and media.

In groups we first gathered the main ideas of who, what, when, where and why using books, videos and websites to help us.

After that we summarised the information we got by using six keywords; making a paragraph that explained the main idea of the treaty. We picked more words but the major idea of the treaty was the 3 P's.

They were: Protection, Partnership & Participation. Those three 'P' words are what the treaty has set to attain.

Next we worked individually to evaluate our fresh ideas and create questions that we want to find out about the text.

An interesting fact I have learnt was that The Treaty of Waitangi was not signed to give peace upon the two lands (Britain & Aotearoa), but instead to get protection from the british crown. I think that is interesting because people think that the treaty was signed to have peace between Britain and Aotearoa.
